When I think about my childhood, the memories come softly rolling in like the ripples of the sea on a calm day. The feeling of cold liquid rushing over my body as I jumped into Rice Lake for the first time ignites as I run across the beach through the water after “Ava” to capture a moment that I could see her registering in her sensory driven wonderland world.
In the next moment the poignant smell of the freshly stained wooden dock, water bugs swimming among the reeds, lake air and the faint sound of a motor boat traveling towards me all come fleeting back to me in a long distant memory.
A time when nothing mattered. When playing was a new discovery and worry was not on my mind or in my vocabulary.
A time when I thought my parents were so old at the age of 40 and I would pretend to fall asleep so my dad would carry me to bed.
He was my hero with big feet and a stride so long I had to jump from foot print to foot print.
Grandparents, aunts, uncles and peanut butter sandwiches were delicious and they all meant the world to me.
